Joe Doe by Vintage presents...
'lucky buck' Electric Guitar 'Leslie ‘Lucky Buck’ Coal topped the Billboard Country Music charts in 1952 with his heartbreak inspired single, “Whisky for Breakfast”. Flushed with sudden success, Coal signed numerous endorsement deals, the most lucrative of which was a contract to become a regular fixture on the WHB national radio show Giddy Up Y’all!. Coal’s initial role on the morning show was to sing cover songs of the day, but due to ‘lifestyle difficulties’, he was relegated to singing jingles for local businesses. After a few unhappy years, Coal ended his contract with WHB and decided to return to his country music roots. “I’m done singing about washing powders and car dealerships. From now on I’m all about the music, not the money.”
'For decades, Coal toured and played to small audiences in the southern states, his meagre earnings barely covering his gas and living expenses. However his luck changed in 2005 when “Whisky for Breakfast” was sampled in East Coast rapper Kalamitee’s track “Get Drunk”, leading to substantial royalty payments and a renewed appreciation of Coal’s original country music.'
Strictly limited to 100 pieces worldwide!
Hotter Than The Desert Sun!
P90 style neck pickupJoe Doe and Vintage based the ‘Lucky Buck’ around a double bound American Alder body, for singing sustain and well-rounded resonance. There’s even an exquisite ‘Saguaro’ cactus F-hole to really let that country sound ring out loud. Coal was best known for playing his sunburst version of this guitar live on stage, although a black version was made just for his guest appearance on the ‘Saddle Up and Ride!’ TV Christmas Special in 1978.
There’s a Wilkinson WTB 3 saddle design down by the bridge section, a tried and tested way to deliver perfect intonation and tonal transfer. As reliable as a Texas sunset, you’ll find a custom designed Joe Doe neck P90 style pickup and a hotter-than-a-branding-iron bridge pickup!
Stunning Fingerboard Detailing!
locking machine headsAt the other end of the ‘Lucky Buck’, you’ll find a one-piece Hard Rock maple neck, featuring a wonderfully comfortable classic Vintage ‘soft C’ profile, and a matching maple fingerboard. Firm and reassuring in the hand, like a well-worn saddle pommel.
You like pedal steel bends right? Cool, then do your thing and let the Wilkinson ‘WJ55 E-Z Lok’ machine heads bring you back in tune. The Lucky Buck is laid out with 22 medium profile frets, with a 43mm Graphtech nut. Smooth and friction free, like a tumbleweed blowing across the Chihuahuan Desert!
A True Collectors Guitar
The ‘Lucky Buck’ from Joe Doe and Vintage is one of the most unique guitars we’ve seen in quite some time. A guitar with a story as unique as your own, almost every inch of this guitar is screaming to tell you it’s story! From the extremely cool floral scratchguard, to the stunning fingerboard decals , this is a true collector’s guitar. Joe Doe and Vintage even included a tough, hard-wearing tweed-styled hard case to keep old ‘Lucky Buck’ safe, and hidden away from the harsh Desert sun!
